Upward Parent’s and Kid’s Get Ready!

This Saturday, January 14, 2012 marks the beginning of Redland Baptist’s Upward Basketball Season in the ROC, our new Recreation facility. We are excited to put it to use.

Please pray for our Upward Teams, Coaches, Referees, and Parents during this years season.

CBA Youth Basketball is here!

Our 2012 CBA season is beginning, and we want to invite all youth who are interested to join a team. We have 3 teams:

6-7^th grades
8-9^th grades
10-12^th grades

The cost is $80 and includes your jersey.

Practices are held Friday nights at Redland Baptist Church in our newly opened ROC! Games will be held on Saturdays, beginning the first Saturday of January.

Upward Sports™ is a first-class sports experience for children that emphasizes healthy competition, sportsmanship, skills building and fun versus the “win-at-all-costs” mentality associated with many sports leagues. Rules unique to Upward Sports are designed to provide the best sports experience for every child.

Early registration August 1st through October 30th, the cost is $85 per child.
Any registration after October 31st, the cost is $95 per child.
Deadline for registration is November 20th.

Welcome Coaches

A special thank you to all of our coaches, referees, and volunteers who make this ministry possible. Through many of you children’s lives have been, and will continue to be changed. If you are interested in coaching or other volunteer opportunities, we are always looking for people to serve. We offer training for all positions listed below:

Concessions (Game Day)
Referees
Setup teams
Prayer Commissioner
Evaluations (Pre-Season) Saturday, November 5th and 12th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Deadline for volunteering is November 20, 2011 and each volunteer must attend one of two scheduled training meetings set for Saturday, October 15, 10:00 am -12:00 pm or Saturday, October 23, 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

For several years now Redland Baptist has embarked on a mission to build a new recreation facility. The church has prayed that this facility will become more then just a sports complex. Our hope is that it will become a place where our community will come and hear about God’s saving grace and love through the many gifted and caring Redlanders. It is through this changed life in Christ that motivates us to share how our story connected with God’s story. Through God’s Holy Word, The Bible, we can hear God’s story of forgiveness, love, and grace that is offered to anyone who wants to receive God’s free gift of salvation. Plan to join us around the tables in the foyer or shooting hoops in the gym this fall. Beginning in September we will host Open-Gym night for men and women ages 18 and older. Keep an eye out for the scheduled nights this fall.

3nd Annual Family Ministry Camping Trip!

Dear Readland Family,

If your family likes camping and need a little get-a-way, then make plans to join our us on August 19-21on our 3nd annual Family Ministry Camping Trip. We will be camping at the Cunningham Falls State Park. You can register online HERE. We have a total of 15 sites available:

2 mini-cabins (4 persons per cabin): $109 for two nights

8 tent sites (RV can use as well, but no electric and water): $57 for two nights

Praise The Lord for Answered Prayers on the ROC

After several years of planning, preparation, and prayer, our new Recreation and Outreach Center is cleared for occupancy!

So, let me attempt to answer a few questions as we move forward.

Can we use the ROC?

Almost! There are a few things that need to be done before the ROC is fully in use. I know everyone is excited for this long awaited dream to come true. But first things first. We first must complete some finishing touches. The REC Committee is diligently at work equipping the ROC for use: by preparing the opening and closing process for operation, ordering equipment to “stock” the ROC, and training volunteers to operate the ROC and programs. Lastly, we are preparing for The ROC Dedication Service. This service will be a celebration to mark a milestone for Redland and the beginning of new opportunities to share the love of Jesus Christ through sports and recreation ministry.

What is the difference between the Dedication Service and the Community Event?

Good question!

The Dedication Service is scheduled for May 1, 2011 and this day is to dedicate the ROC in memory of Dr. Wehunt, who was the visionary behind the the church moving to build the ROC. He would say, “Give people what they want (sports and recreation), so we can give them what they need (a relationship with Jesus Christ).” After the dedication the ROC will begin to be in use.

The Community Event is being planned for Fall 2011. This event is community wide. We encourage redlanders to invite friends and neighbors to check out the new facility. We hope through this event we can connect with our community through sports and recreation.

Upward Basketball Registration Opens soon

The 2010-2011 Upward Basketball season starts soon. Registration opens on October 2nd so start getting the word out to all of your friends, co-workers, neighbors, schools, and family members. We’ll be partnering with Church of the Redeemer and FBC Rockville for another great season. Keep checking back for more information.
